Plan for the end of life of Microsoft Apps in Internet Explorer

There are two dates every IT leader needs to add to their calendar now: November 30, 2020 and August 17, 2021.

  • On November 30th, the Teams Web app will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE).
  • On August 17th, the rest of the Microsoft 365 apps will no longer support IE.

Though one of these dates is months away, today is the day to plan your enterprise’s transition from IE to Microsoft Edge.

What can end users expect from the end of life of apps in IE?

According to Microsoft’s press release, users can expect to have a degraded experience. This means that certain features will not function in the IE version of Teams and subsequent applications. Or users can expect that applications will simply not function and will not connect to IE.

How will this impact end users and organizations?

Businesses without a transition plan to Edge will suffer a hit to productivity, as their employees will not be using a browser optimized for the Microsoft suite or will need a complicated workflow to get around the disruption. With its seamless integration with Microsoft 365 apps and built-in productivity features, Edge is the browser designed for modern work.
